- I just ordered the commercial version of AmiTCP through Safe Harbor.
- While waiting for it to show up I've been messing around with the
- 4.0 demo version from Aminet.
-
- I've got it set up so that everything pretty much works OK through the
- loopback address. I have a few questions:
-
- * When using telnet to my local machine, it seems that anything that
- needs to put the console in raw mode won't work. For example,
- running a vi text editor over telnet doesn't work. Is there any
- workaround for this? It'd be nice to be able to run any app that
- just used the CLI window.
-
- * It seems that even running through the loopback address, networking
- is pretty slow. I get 293 Kb/sec with FTP using a 256 Kb buffer on
- a 4000/040/25. I was hoping for a bit more. I just tried this on
- my workstation and I get 6223 Kb/sec. I didn't expect the Ami to be
- this fast but I was hoping for at least 1/10th of that, or about 600
- Kb/sec though loopback. Is the bandwidth limiter here CPU
- performance, or what? (I'll try this again when I get an 060
- installed, but I'm wondering what other people have found).
-
- * Anyone tried ange-ftp through ncftp? Does it work?
-
- Thanks,
-
